After the Transplant

After discharge, you will be seen regularly at our Transplant Surgery Center for follow-up care. You will have access to a variety of health care services and counseling, including:

• Social work specialists
• Nutritionists
• Coordinators and nurses
• Transportation and lodging

Additionally, the pharmacist will meet with you to discuss the medications you will be taking since kidney transplant patients require life-long treatment with medications to suppress the immune response. This is called immunosuppressive therapy.

These specialists have experience with kidney transplant patients and they will help ease you though the transition from hospital to home – from illness to health.
