Dr. Maiese specializes in cerebrovasculature ischemia and related diseases; and central nervous system degenerative diseases. He is board certified in Neurology and serves as a Professor of Neurology, Anatomy and Cell Biology at Wayne State University.
He also serves as an Associate Member of the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics; Member of the Institute for Environmental Health Sciences; and Director of the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Cerebral Ischemia at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
His honors include:
- The Robert G. Siekert Award in Stroke (HM), 1994;
- American Neurological Association, Elected Member, 1996;
- Chairman, American Heart Association Brain Committee, 2000-2002;
- American Heart Association Consortium Executive Council, 2001-2002;
