Harper University Hospital is a leader in developing and performing innovative weight-loss surgery – bariatric surgery – on men and women who are at least 100 pounds overweight, suffer from related health conditions and have tried other weight-loss methods.
The exceptional surgeons at Harper use many different surgical techniques, including minimally invasive laparoscopic gastric bypass and the innovative Sapala-Wood Micropouch™ process.
The Sapala-Wood Micropouch™ process was developed by physicians at Harper University Hospital and is the result of 17 years of focused experience in bariatric surgery involving several thousand patients. While the standard sized gastric bypass pouch is about 30 cc or the size of a lemon, the Micropouch™ is about 2 cc or the size of a grape.
Another innovative bariatric procedure performed at Harper is minimally invasive, laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. The laparoscopic version of the procedure requires just six small incisions, each a centimeter or less in length. Of the thousands of gastric bypass surgeries performed each year in the United States, only 12 percent are currently performed using laparoscopic techniques.
