The terms “heart attack” and “cardiac arrest” are often used interchangeably, but they mean very different things. A “heart attack” occurs when a partial or complete blood vessel blockage interferes with blood flow to the heart. “Cardiac arrest” happens when a heart rhythm disturbance prevents the heart from operating properly.
