Dr. Spears is Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology and is very active in WSU’s cardiology research laboratories – serving as Director in the Invasive Research Laboratory. His research interest includes novel approaches to coronary reperfusion. He is well known as an innovative researcher who holds more than 30 patents. He received his cardiology fellowship training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and then went on to an American Heart Association Advanced Research Fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He received additional invasive cardiology training at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He currently serves as a Professor of Internal Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He is a leader in new approaches to deliver oxygen to the heart of patients with heart attacks.
