Ali Elhorr, M.D.
Assistant Professor, Minimally Invasive Surgery,
Wayne State University
Dr. Ali
Elhorr is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University.
He also earned his pre-doctoral degree in Engineering through Wayne State
University and completed his surgical residency at Wayne State University
Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Elhorr earned his MD from St. Matthews University,
School of Medicine in Belize and completed his clinical training in Michigan
accredited hospitals. After completing his surgical, Dr. Elhorr accepted a
fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric surgery at the Cleveland
Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Elhorr maintains professional memberships
in the European Association for Transluminal Surgery, the American Society for
Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the American College of Surgeons (ACS),
the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), Transoral
Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF), the American Hernia Society, and the Michigan
Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Elhorr specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic and bariatric
surgery. Bariatric procedures include laparoscopic adjustable gastric band ( Lap
Band and REALIZE Banding Solutions), Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Sleeve
Gastrectomy, StomaphyX (for individuals who have had previous gastric bypass
surgery and who are regaining weight), Gastric Bypass and Vertical Banding
Gastroplasty Revisions.
Dr. Elhorr has authored articles related to the
study of support groups playing a role in weight loss after bariatric surgery;
laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB); and degenerative joint disease
following LAGB to name a few. He has other areas of clinical interests
such as Loss of Domain Ventral Hernias, Paraesophageal, Inguinal, Hiatal
Hernias, all done laparoscopically. Also, Dr. Elhorr's other areas of
interest include surgical treatment of gastroparesis (Laparoscopic Gastric
Pacemaker), endoluminal wrap for the repair of hiatal hernia (Esophyx) and
general surgery.
